“Here we go again...” Said Charlotte.
Not that anyone was listening, her parents were still asleep – as usual, but at least pretending made her feel a tiny little bit better.
Her head was still turning, and she had no idea, what exactly happened the last night. It was the first party she's ever been invited to.
It was her so called “friend” Chris who invited the 17 years old to come. She put on her headphones, aimed for the lunch bag, which wasn't there, since she forgot to prepare it,
and threw the school bag over her shoulder to run off to school.

Whilst sprinting Charlotte decided, to think over everything later, and headed toward the yellow school bus.
As always, she caught it at the last second. Luckily the place where she'd always sit was free. It was like an unwritten law: The seats on the left side, right behind the back-door,
seemed to be reserved for delinquents, the ugly and those who've had lost their names in front of the leading school gangs.  Charlotte wasn't really part of either of those groups.
The only thing she tried to be, was herself. She never thought of herself to be pretty, but she didn't have the usual “I'm plain and ugly” complex, most teenage girls displayed at her age either.
She let herself fall into the hard awfully patterned seat and closed her eyes. The base of her music drowned the chatter and laughter of her noisy schoolmates and the redhead was finally able to calm down a bit.
So what was it exactly, that happened around twelve hours ago..? There were a lot of bottles with drinks in all kinds of odd colours and unpleasant tastes.
There also was Chris, the guy she's had a crush on since primary school. Why did he invite her anyway? He usually only called upon her, to copy the homework or to get a bite of her self-made sandwiches.
The party was at Tessa’s place, a typical rich family’s villa. Chris gave her a drink, and they started some pointless small talk. Tess was one of the school idols and leader of the swimming club, mostly admired for her D cup-size. Charlotte could now recall the sugar-sweet fake smile the host gave her when she came in, together with the clear ice-cold feeling, that something was going terribly wrong. Then her memories faded again.

Only passively she could notice the pale girl who had taken place on the seat next to her. Her black hair fell over her thin face, and she looked absent, as if she wasn't really in the bus, but more in some kind of dream world. Mary, was her name, and the only thing, except this, Charlotte knew about her, was that she was the unlucky person, who fell over at the cafeteria on her first school day.
And then, even more unlucky, spilled her smoothie all over Jessica’s white dress. Jessica was Tess best friend, and screamed over it like a five years old. Ever since her Name was well known by everyone.
Charlotte smiled at her, in a futile attempt to cheer the first grader up. There was no reaction to be seen. Not the smallest movement on the little bitter face. Suddenly Charlotte shuddered, without exactly knowing why.
She felt terribly sorry for the tiny student, cram school was rough, even without such circumstances. Did she even have any friends? Charlotte couldn't think of a person she's ever seen by her side.
Following a sudden intuition, she took off her headphones and first of all, had some trouble getting used to the sound level in the full vehicle.

Then she gently poked the shoulder of the fragile little creature sitting by her side, and felt guilty for not having done this long time before.
“Hey... are you okay?” She addressed her. The pitiful appearance winced, before her gloomy eyes got a nervous shimmer and then looked directly into the older student’s freckled face.
Charlotte gave her best, to hide her shock, but the cold gaze of the little girl, scared her more then she would have admitted.
“Aren't you scared of me, destroying your friendships?” she asked, with a voice, that sounded much more mature, then the Irish girl thought it would be.
Charlotte shook her head, making her bush of curly hair bouncing through the stuffy air and then smilingly added; “I'd need to have such a thing first...”
The youngster’s expression lightened up a bit. “You're the one talking...” she mumbled, “Don't you know about..?” - “Do I look as if I care?”, Charlotte promptly interrupted, without even expecting an answer.
She then softly smiled and said, “If you want, we can be friends.” adding, “Not that I’m quite sure, if I'm qualified to that position.” That was the moment, when Mary first smiled.
And her smile grew, to a grin, until she started laughing out loud. Tears flew over her pale cheeks, when she answered “I gladly accept your offer, milady!”
Which made Charlotte so happy, that she completely forgot to worry, about what might have happened yesterday.
They then spent the rest of the bus trip chattering, but even though it was nice to have found someone to talk to, Charlotte felt somehow insecure and had a strange feeling of sadness within her.
This is a story that was spinning in my mind for quite some time now, I finally came to write it down at last!
